"The Master of Environmental Science and Management (MESM) is a 2-year professional program focused on interdisciplinary collaborative solutions to environmental problems. MESM students develop breadth through courses in natural and social sciences, build depth through courses in their chosen specialization, and participate in a year-long collaborative capstone project, working as part of a Master's Group Project." The Walker Rangers MESM research group was commissioned by The Nature Conservancy (TNC) to conduct a watershed analysis of the Carson and Walker river basins of Douglas County, Nevada. The graduate researchers developed a conceptual model of the local watershed, evaluated ecosystem services and the impacts of climate change, as well as performed a market feasibility study to determine if a water fund mechanism would be possible in the region.
